What is Wildcrafts Ecologic Design?

It is an initiative which bets for a lifestyle based in strong ethics, namely, Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. Additionally, it is a legal vehicle which comes from my experiences and works in Ecological Design in the UK. WED got the mission of advising its clients with the aim of establishing, managing and supporting sustainable ecosystems which save money and resources, taking into account the ecological, political and socioeconomic frame we are living in of climatic change, economic recession and development of a greener society.

What is Ecologic Design?

It is a tool for creating ecologically sustainable systems which minimize human intervention and maximize yield. For instance, in one of these systems the crop is not the only yield, but we obtain additionally other outputs from education, research, ecotourism, events organization, etc. Another important feature of Ecologic Design is considering the client as part of the working ecosystem. Usually, the first step is analyzing holistically and ecologically the existent ecosystems and the natural resources available, then defining what we want and is possible to achieve and projecting our goals in a design. Finally, from this design we will obtain the strategy to establish, maintain and improve it. A source of inspiration for Ecologic Design is Permaculture. It is ecologically permanent agriculture and culture, using self-perpetuating ecosystems, instead of ploughing, pesticides and artificial fertilizers.

Where can it be implemented?

Examples where the Ecologic Design is effective are:

- Organic Agriculture and Edible Landscape.

- Agroforestry and Intercropping.

- Systems for saving power, heating and water.

- Reduction of ecologic footprint.

- Ecovillages.

- Ecotourism.

- Ethical businesses.

- Humanitarian projects and charities.

- Environmental awareness.

Conclusion

The word Ecology comes from the Greek eco (home) and logo (knowledge). Some months ago, the writer and Gandhi disciple, Satish Kumar, said that while visiting the Economy Faculty of Cambridge University he asked where it was the Ecology Department, due to it is not possible to study Economy (home management) without knowing Ecology. The policy of WED is learning from Nature and working with Nature instead of against it.
